A busy and fun weekend for us

We’ve had a pretty full weekend at the Urban Deli as far as keeping busy goes. On Friday, we provided 24 Operation Red Nose volunteers a hearty home made chicken soup with tea biscuits, two dips (our roasted garlic and artichoke and Hummus dips served with seasoned pita chips) and topped off with a mixed dessert tray of Deli goodies.

We spoke with Katie, the coordinator, and she tells us the volunteers made up seven teams of drivers and they chauffeured thirty-four trips, raising over $500 in donations — the largest amount raised in a single night thus far. (We’re not yet sure how last night went.) Last weekend they raised the same amount over two days.

So congratulations to everyone at Operation Red Nose and a big thank you to all the volunteers!

Music last night

Last night was another of our music nights and we welcomed Karen Palmer, an old soul and story teller with an affinity for Saint John history that comes through in her music, particularly in her own creative works such as “The West Side Song.”

Karen has a crystal clear sound, a bit reminiscent  of Jewel. She brought us her own creativity, style and accomplished guitar playing to make it a warm and inviting evening. So many thanks to Karen.

And thanks as well to our Twitter followers for their tweets and retweets!

This and that and music, clocks, festivals

Wes JagoeIt’s a Halloween and we’ll be taking it in at the Deli with a bit of music tonight courtesy of Wes Jagoe (who is also our music guru, arranging our music nights). Wes will be playing from 8:00 pm till 10:00, (10 is a ballpark estimate). So if you get a chance, pop by. We’d love to see you.

And as a head’s up … Next Saturday (November 7), Terry Whalen will perform beginning at 8:00 pm.

With all these mentions of time, we should also toss out a reminder that tonight is the night we turn clocks back an hour as we go back to Standard Time. So as of tomorrow, mornings shouldn’t be quite as dark. Late afternoon, however, will. 🙂

Finally, there’s a nice article in the Telegraph-Journal about next week’s Chop Chop “Feast”-ival here in Saint John. It’s the one titled Saint John restos want foodies to Chop chop. It’s worth a read.

Hope to see you tonight — and have a great Halloween!

Music on Saturday and our hours get tweaked

We just wanted to remind you that we’re introducing live music. Mike Biggar will be at the Deli tomorrow evening (Saturday) starting at 8:00pm. Have a look at our Live Music page for more info. We’ve also arranged to team up with Wes Jagoe who will be helping us by handling our live music nights. We’re pretty excited about all of this and can’t wait to get the ball rolling (which will be Saturday).

Our hours have had a bit of tweaking as well to accomodate our Live Music. On Saturdays we’ll be open till 10:00pm (or when the music wraps). However, our full menu we’ll be available till 8:00pm, after which we’ll have a limited menu available.

We hope to see you! The last word goes to Liz, who says:

I’m very excited about this part of the business….this is FUN!  Yipee, Yoo, Yaaa, Yeah 🙂
