Notes and updates: Our weekends and the Food Network

Jingle BelleWe have a few notes and updates beginning with our weekends. During December, Urban Deli will be hosting a number of Christmas parties and because of this we will be closed on most weekend nights OR our seating will be limited. We urge you to call ahead and confirm availability because we don’t want to disappoint anyone that drops in. You can check ahead with us at 652-3354.

As for the Food Network, we’re very excited. We’ve heard from them and it turns out the Urban Deli segment of “You Gotta Eat Here!” is set to air March 23rd at 9:00 ET (10:00pm in Atlantic Canada). We can hardly wait!

The show itself makes its premiere Friday, January 6 at 9pm ET/PT on the Food Network Canada (that would be 10pm in Atlantic Canada). (Press release – PDF file) We think it will be a great one — with the March segment marked on our calendar!

We hope everyone’s enjoying the season. It’s busy but it’s fun!

The season of holiday get-togethers

Time moves very quickly. We’re already less than a month away from Christmas! But we’re ready for it. We’re also ready to give you a hand with ideas. If you haven’t seen it yet, we have a Christmas menu.

But don’t feel restricted. Whether you’re a company or just someone looking to entertain friends with a tasty Christmas get together, we can help. The Deli holds up to 40 people comfortably and we also have catering if you prefer to have your get together at home or in the office.

Our Christmas menu is available but if it’s a less formal occasion and you prefer to simplify, we also have menus for those, like our Saint John Comfort Food or Maritime Kitchen Party menus.

Just give Urban Deli a call at 652.DELI (3354) and ask for Liz or Andrew and we can get started on your plans.

Have a great holiday season!

Simplify with a yummy gift

Just ask to have one added to your bill next time you are in for a bite to eat.

Finding the right gift can sometimes be a challenge. The year is full of gift-giving occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, graduations … and yes, the day that is beginning to loom on the calendar for later next month.

(Is it too early to mention it by name?)

We have an idea for you, especially when you’re trying to find something for a foodie friend: an Urban Deli gift card. It may look small and unassuming, but it tastes wonderful! 🙂

When you pass by the Deli, or drop in for a bite, just ask us for a gift card — you choose the amount. They fit quite nicely inside a card. And an Urban Deli gift card can be used at anytime (no expiration date).

There is no need to be stressed trying to come up with a gift idea. You can simplify with one of our cards. And keep in mind, you don’t need a special occasion to give someone you care about a gift. Sometimes the best ones are those that come from right out of the blue.

Something different for Chop Chop

For Chop Chop … a little something different for Urban Deli. We have a two course dinner at $12 (rather than three courses at thirty)And it goes like this …

To start, a flat bread choice:

    1. Caprese – tomato, pesto, fresh basil and mozzarella, or
    2. Smoked meat bits with shaved red onions, Deli mustard and mozzarella

And for your meal, one of three pasta choices:

    1. Pesto (vegetarian: sauteed portabella mushrooms, spinach, roasted red peppers in a creamy pesto sauce topped with fresh parmesan)
    2. Meatball (aka “Pass da Balls” – fresh tomato sauce, made in-house Italian meatballs and parmesan cheese)
    3. Tomato (made in-house fresh tomato sauce and parmesan cheese)

Alternatively, you can also choose our Charcuterie Board (Genoa salami, sausage, chicken liver pate mousse, caper berries, Deli mustard and Montreal light rye bread) at $10.00.

And what is different? We don’t have a Chop Chop menu for lunch; it’s part of our dinner offering. And rather than the three courses, we’re doing two at $12.00.

We’re hope you like!  Get out in our Saint John’s Uptown and enjoy all the great food all our wonderful restaurants have for you. It has never tasted so good Uptown! 🙂

Bagels and bread at Urban Deli

We’re introducing something new at the Deli. We’re now selling 1/2 dozen Montreal style bagels for $2.99. These bagels are boiled in honey water before baking, so they have a particularly tasty quality to them.

We’re also selling Montreal Light Rye at $3.50 a loaf. Both the bagels and light rye bread are brought in fresh from Montreal.

The next time you’re in Urban Deli, you can pick up the bagels or a loaf of the light rye, or call us ahead at 652-3354 and we’ll have them ready for you for pick up.

Try the bagels or the light rye — or try them both. We think you’ll like them!

When will we be on the Food Network?

We get asked — frequently! — when will the show on the Food Network featuring Urban Deli and Saint John Ale House be aired and the answer is pretty straight forward: we don’t know.

The show is called You Gotta Eat Here! and it’s hosted by John Catucci. But it’s air date hasn’t been determined. The show will begin airing on the Food Network in the new year — probably January. The date for the episode that features Urban Deli airs hasn’t been set, so we can’t give you a date.

But rest assured … When we know, we’ll let you know! If you’re anxious to see the episode, imagine how we feel! We’re very excited to see our Saint John featured, especially when it’s focused on the Uptown with Urban Deli and Saint John Ale House.

So, keep following us here or on Facebook or Twitter … and we’ll give you a heads up when we’re in the know.
