The season of holiday get-togethers
Time moves very quickly. We’re already less than a month away from Christmas! But we’re ready for it. We’re also ready to give you a hand with ideas. If you haven’t seen it yet, we have a Christmas menu.
But don’t feel restricted. Whether you’re a company or just someone looking to entertain friends with a tasty Christmas get together, we can help. The Deli holds up to 40 people comfortably and we also have catering if you prefer to have your get together at home or in the office.
Our Christmas menu is available but if it’s a less formal occasion and you prefer to simplify, we also have menus for those, like our Saint John Comfort Food or Maritime Kitchen Party menus.
Just give Urban Deli a call at 652.DELI (3354) and ask for Liz or Andrew and we can get started on your plans.
Have a great holiday season!
Something different for Chop Chop
For Chop Chop … a little something different for Urban Deli. We have a two course dinner at $12 (rather than three courses at thirty). And it goes like this …
To start, a flat bread choice:
- Caprese – tomato, pesto, fresh basil and mozzarella, or
- Smoked meat bits with shaved red onions, Deli mustard and mozzarella
And for your meal, one of three pasta choices:
- Pesto (vegetarian: sauteed portabella mushrooms, spinach, roasted red peppers in a creamy pesto sauce topped with fresh parmesan)
- Meatball (aka “Pass da Balls” – fresh tomato sauce, made in-house Italian meatballs and parmesan cheese)
- Tomato (made in-house fresh tomato sauce and parmesan cheese)
Alternatively, you can also choose our Charcuterie Board (Genoa salami, sausage, chicken liver pate mousse, caper berries, Deli mustard and Montreal light rye bread) at $10.00.
And what is different? We don’t have a Chop Chop menu for lunch; it’s part of our dinner offering. And rather than the three courses, we’re doing two at $12.00.
We’re hope you like! Get out in our Saint John’s Uptown and enjoy all the great food all our wonderful restaurants have for you. It has never tasted so good Uptown! 🙂
We have a new menu
Yes, we finally have our new menu, which is not so much new as updated. We’ve added a few new things and removed the odd item.
One of the items we’ve added that we’re pretty happy about is our Quiona Salad (keen-wah) – ancient grain salad with ginger, honey, lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, cilantro and chili flakes. That is one of the salads we have available. We’ve also added a Charcuterie Board to our appetizers. And that would be genoa salami, sausage, chicken liver pate mousse, caper berries, Deli mustard and Montreal light rye bread.
Under our specialty sandwiches you’ll now see the Uptown Big Beef Bad Boy and in the Deli Delight Sandwiches you’ll see the Mediterranean, Italian Meatball and Italian Cold Cut.
Of course, you’ll still see the popular ones like the Original Montreal Style Smoked Meat, Triple Decker Grilled Cheese and Deli Meatloaf sandwiches.
Please let us know what you think of the new menu and if you have ideas about items we should have at the Deli, please share with us.
We hope you like the menu!
Have a stroll down King Street this Canada Day
We’ve opened for Canada Day and will be open till 4:00 this afternoon. So when you’re in the Uptown, pay us a visit and say, “Happy Canada Day!”
Come take a stroll down King Street and support all the vendors along both sides of street!

We’re also set up outside today on King Street and we have grilled English Muffin breakfast sandwich plus health bars, ice tea & lemonade…all made in-house.
As for lunch … We’re featuring deliciously fresh Lobster Rolls — selling them inside the Deli and outside on King. And outside only: pulled pork English Muffin!

Gluten-free pasta and more at Urban Deli
We’ve made a few updates to our gluten-free offerings, including the list of gluten-free products you can purchase here at Urban Deli.
Heather Turnbull from The Gluten-free Menu has made some wonderful changes and we’re excited to be able to offer them.
She now has a soft multi grain bread and a soft white bread, both gluten-free and dairy free. We’re able to retail both of these, as a look at our gluten-free list shows. We’ll also continue to use her gluten-free molasses brown for our sandwiches.
And there’s more!
We’ve now added gluten-free pasta to our product list – angel hair, lasagna and penne – all of them available for purchase here at the Deli. This is thanks to Hodgson Mill. They’re providing us the pastas – all natural brown rice pastas with golden milled flax seed.
You can have a look at all the gluten-free products we offer for purchase on our gluten-free page. (You can also download the.pdf file.)
Of course, we also us these products in the restaurant, so if you’re looking for a gluten-free friendly place to eat, Urban Deli can fit the bill!
Hope you have a fabulous weekend and if you get a chance, drop in and say!
