Testing the waters – Summer hours and other changes

We’re excited as we put our toes in to test the waters with a few changes we’re introducing starting Sunday, May 8th. (That would be Mother’s Day.)

Beginning Mom’s Day, May 8th (Sunday coming up) we will be open for breakfast/brunch every Sunday from 10 am to 3pm – serving breakfast only.

This means we’ll now be open on both days of the weekend for breakfast:

  • Saturdays for breakfast 9 am to noon, followed by our regular menu till 8:00pm
  • Sunday breakfast/brunch from 10 am to 3pm

And as of Monday, May 9th, we will be closing the Deli at 3pm on Mondays and Tuesdays (but only on Mondays and Tuesdays). This is to allow us to respond to the continued requests to be open on Sundays, especially with the arrival of the warmer months when people are out and about in the Uptown.

We’ll also be using our space on Monday and Tuesday evenings for private functions and possibly cooking classes. So keep us in mind for your private company dinner meetings and send us your cooking class requests.

Once again, beginning this weekend Urban Deli will be welcoming your weekend with our Deli breakfast menu on Saturdays and Sundays. We hope to see you!

Our hours for an Easter weekend

For some it’s a four day holiday; for others a three day holiday. It’s the Easter weekend coming up and we want to let you know what our hours will be for the rest of the week. In a nutshell:

  • Thursday: open until 8pm
  • Friday:  Closed
  • Saturday: 9a.m. to 4pm
  • Sunday:  Closed
  • Monday: 11am to 4pm (We’ll be serving up lunch early with a breakfast sandwich special.)

Keep in mind our Saturday breakfast and lunch when you’re out and about, particularly if you’ll be in the Uptown. We can get your Saturday off to a tasty start with our breakfast or, if you take a break in your day for lunch, we’re at the ready with our scrumptious choices.

We’d love to see you and say, “Happy Easter!”

Lunch and dinner – Happy Valentine’s Day!

We have our Valentine’s dinner set for this evening, but today for lunch we’re featuring:

  • Pasta Dish … a creamy pesto pasta with sauteed portabello mushrooms, roasted reds and spinach; finished with fresh Parmesan cheese
  • Burger … Bacon and cheddar burger – comes with a side choice

Of course, this evening’s dinner is for the romantically inclined, or even those who just like an excuse to be with each other.

It’s our Valentine’s dinner. Have a look at the menu (.pdf format). We think you’ll like it! You can reserve by simply giving us a call at 652-3354.

And hat’s off to our friends at happinez! Via Uptown Saint John on Facebook, we found out the Ottawa Citizen has picked them as one of the 18 best places to kiss in Canada. (We knew something was going on in those quiet corners.)

Have a great day everyone and we hope to see you this evening!

It’s warm uptown at the Deli

It may be snowy and windy and still frosty with the January chill, and maybe your school has closed today or even work, but if that’s the case you could drop into Urban Deli. We’re open, and we’re warm!

The food is warm too. It’s from our kitchen where the heat is always on. For instance, you might want to indulge in:

  • Our popular Reuben Sandwich, or
  • Our Roast Beef Melt Sandwich, or
  • One of our two pasta dishes — creamy Pesto Pasta or our Mac’N’Cheese.

You may even want to close your eyes and imagine you’re somewhere south as you enjoy our Pulled Pork Sandwich or Muffuletta Sandwich.

You might even want to go with something simple and traditional on a snowy, cold day: soup. Our soup is always homemade, fresh and hot.

Brush off the frost and get warm

Urban Deli's very popular "comfort food," the meatloaf sandwich.

It’s more than a little cool out today — it’s freezing! Welcome to January.

If we may be so bold, we thinks it’s the perfect time for Urban Deli. You can come in and warm up with our creamy pesto pasta or, our most popular; a steaming, Montreal style smoked meat sandwich.  And we encourage you to try our new spare rib sandwich.

Of course, there is always the meatloaf sandwich too …

And if you’re not into venturing outside, you can still enjoy the Deli.  Gather up a few of friends and colleagues and order in. We’ll deliver! Just call us at 652.3354.

It’s always warm in our kitchen, and we like it that way!

Breakfast for the morning after

Deep Deli Skillet: Deli potatoes, smoked meat bits, white cheddar, two eggs topped with hollandaise sauce & served with a side of toast.

We mentioned yesterday our plans for a New Year’s Eve dinner at Urban Deli. But what about the day after — New Year’s Day — when the parties are over and 2011 is well underway?

We have it covered! Enjoy your hangover at the Deli!

On New Year’s Day, we’ll be serving breakfast, and only breakfast, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm so when you roll out of bed to face the new year, and your taste buds start kicking up a fuss, we’ll be here for you. Drop by between 9 and 3 and enjoy a Deli breakfast with us.

It will be a Deli-icious way to start 2011.

And don’t forget, on New Year’s Eve we have a special chef and a special menu and a special 7:00pm seating. Please call Liz at the Deli to reserve — 652-3354 and she’ll take care of you.

Our holiday hours and have a Deli-icious Christmas!

Urban Deli Christmas 2010: Rob, Michael-Ann, Liane, Janna, Fran, Craig, Dale, Gord, Elizabeth, Alan, Vaughan, and Jordan. Missing in the photo: Greg, Phil, Dave, Jenny and Candy.

Wow! It’s here! Like you, we’ve been so busy we barely noticed it coming up on us. But it’s Christmas Eve day now and we know what tomorrow is, so we wanted to pause a moment and say a big thank you to everyone: our wonderful staff, suppliers, all the other Uptown businesses and, with a really big emphasis, our marvelous customers.

Not only have our customers kept us busy, a lot of them have given us great ideas for new things to introduce and on occasion have helped us “taste test” new items to see if they were up to their standards and ours.

It’s amazing how much they’ve helped us this year. So …

Thank you! And we hope everyone, everywhere has a Christmas to remember and a New Year that flies by because it’s so full of new people and things. And may we all be prosperous! Happy holidays!

Speaking of which, these are our hours over the holidays:

Holiday Hours:

  • Dec. 27 to 30: Regular Hours
  • Dec 31 (New Year’s Eve): Special New Year’s Eve dinner seating at 7:00pm — please call ahead (ask for Liz) and reserve.
  • Jan. 1 (New Year’s Day): Enjoy your hangover at the Deli! Breakfast only 9:00am to 3:00pm.

And we’re back to regular hours on January 2, 2011.
